Tamar is the location of former Royal Naval base (1897 -1997). Prince of Wales Building was one of the most important architecture in that military shore station. A crucifix was hung on the exterior where was used to be a chapel on the podium level (facing east to Admiralty MTR station). After the Handover in 1997, People's Liberation Army took over the site, before then, an external refurbishment was undertaken, the English inscription of “Prince of Wales Building” and the crucifix were removed, it was renamed and inscription was replaced with “Chinese People’s Liberation Amy Forces Hong Kong Building” in Chinese.
In 2012, being part of Tamar expansion, Central Reclamation and CPL Forces Pier, the building underwent another massive renovation and expected to be completed in 2014. Now it is covered by net and scaffold, and the new Chinese inscription is not visible. Therefore, I carve two Chinese characters “People” (人民), which are in the same style of Mao Zedong’s significant calligraphy, “Serve the People” (為人民服務), and then deliver to the People's Liberation Army as a gift.
